# Teams

## Overview

The Microsoft Teams integration allows organizations to connect Microsoft Teams environments to Engineering Metrics and collect collaboration and communication data for reporting and analytics.

Using this integration, organizations can:

* Connect Microsoft Teams environments
* Authenticate using Microsoft credentials
* Configure data collection scopes
* Synchronize collaboration data
* Monitor communication activity
* Analyze team engagement metrics

## Prerequisites

Before configuring the integration, ensure you have:

* Access to the Engineering Metrics Dashboard
* Access to a Microsoft Teams environment
* Appropriate Microsoft API credentials
* Permissions to access Teams data
* Required permissions to configure integrations

## Navigate to Teams Connections

1. Open the Engineering Metrics Dashboard.
2. Navigate to **Integration**.
3. Select **Communication Tool Metrics**.
4. Choose **Teams Connections**.

The Teams Connections page displays all configured Microsoft Teams integrations.

## Create a New Teams Connection

1. Click **New Connection**.
2. Enter the required Microsoft Teams connection details.
3. Validate the connection credentials.
4. Save the connection.

Once saved, the Teams connection will appear in the Connections list.

## Understanding the Connections Page

The Connections page allows administrators to:

* View configured Teams connections
* Search existing connections
* Add new connections
* Configure data scopes
* Associate scope configurations
* Delete data scopes
* Remove connections

The selected connection is displayed in the main workspace where scope management activities are performed.

## Configure Data Scopes

After creating a Teams connection:

1. Select the connection from the Connections list.
2. Click **Add Data Scope**.
3. Configure the Teams resources that should be synchronized.
4. Save the scope configuration.

<Note>
  Only configured data scopes will be included in data collection and reporting.
</Note>

## Managing Data Scopes

Users can:

* Add Data Scope
* Associate Scope Config
* Delete Data Scope

These options allow administrators to control which Teams resources are included in synchronization and reporting.

## Understanding Data Scopes

A data scope defines the Microsoft Teams resources that Engineering Metrics will collect and analyze.

Depending on configuration, scopes may include:

* Teams
* Channels
* Users
* Collaboration activities
* Communication metrics

Only configured scopes will be processed during synchronization.

## Scope Configuration

Scope configurations determine how synchronized Teams data is mapped within Engineering Metrics.

This configuration enables:

* Dashboard reporting
* Team-level analytics
* Organizational reporting
* Communication insights

## Synchronizing Teams Data

Once the connection and data scopes have been configured, Engineering Metrics begins collecting data from Microsoft Teams.

Collected information may include:

* Team activity
* Channel activity
* User participation metrics
* Collaboration trends
* Communication insights
* Engagement metrics

Synchronization occurs automatically according to platform scheduling configurations.

## Monitoring Communication Metrics

After synchronization, collected Teams data can be used to analyze:

* Team collaboration patterns
* Communication activity
* User engagement
* Team participation trends
* Organizational communication insights

## Managing Connections

Administrators can manage Teams connections directly from the Connections page.

Available actions include:

* Viewing connection information
* Updating connection settings
* Managing scopes
* Deleting connections

To remove a connection:

1. Select the desired connection.
2. Click **Delete Connection**.
3. Confirm the deletion.

<Warning>
  Deleting a connection removes access to associated Teams data and may impact reporting that relies on the integration.
</Warning>

## Troubleshooting

### Connection Validation Failed

Possible causes:

* Invalid credentials
* Missing permissions
* Authentication issues
* Network connectivity problems

Recommended actions:

* Verify connection credentials
* Confirm required Microsoft permissions
* Re-test the connection
* Review network connectivity

### Data Not Appearing

Possible causes:

* Data scopes not configured
* Insufficient permissions
* Synchronization delay

Recommended actions:

* Verify data scope configuration
* Confirm access permissions
* Allow time for synchronization to complete

### Synchronization Issues

Possible causes:

* Authentication failures
* API access restrictions
* Invalid configuration settings

Recommended actions:

* Verify connection settings
* Confirm credential validity
* Review synchronization status

## Best Practices

* Use descriptive connection names
* Configure only required scopes
* Periodically review connection settings
* Monitor synchronization activity regularly
* Remove unused connections
* Review communication analytics periodically

## Summary

The Microsoft Teams integration enables Engineering Metrics to securely connect to Microsoft Teams and collect communication and collaboration data for analytics and reporting. By configuring Teams connections and data scopes, organizations can gain visibility into team engagement, collaboration trends, communication activity, and organizational interaction patterns.
